The Merrimon-Wynne is an extremely popular wedding spot for brides and grooms looking for a traditional venue, and it lives up to its reputation. At Premier Party Planners, we totally understand this. The Merrimon-Wynne has history, charm, old South elegance and a dreamy sense of place. “Built in 1876, [the house] was carefully restored to its original grandeur. In addition to the picturesque building, the property has expansive, beautifully maintained grounds. Located in the heart of historic, downtown Raleigh, it sits on the birth site of Dr. Jane McKimmon, and is only a few doors away from the Governor’s Mansion.”

Recently we planned a wedding for Katie Bakstad and Will Stewart and theirs was a perfect example of the kind of wedding that The Merrimon-Wynne does so well. So here’s a little flashback!

The Merrimon-Wynne

The Victorian trim on the house, the brick walk, boxwood hedges and rocking chairs all play their role in setting the scene. This couple chose a wedding arbor absolutely cascading with roses, peonies and greenery and then let the lawn speak for itself. Wooden chairs in lines awaited guests and custom signs and hurricane lanterns welcomed everyone.

Getting Ready Photos

Katie with her girls, and Will with his best man and best friends, cut gorgeous figures and took advantage of the lovely rooms The Merrimon-Wynne has for couples and attendants and the outdoor spaces as well. Groups can spread out to get ready, make toasts, laugh and capture memories with the photographer at the ready. The old Southern charm of the exterior was perfect for group shots before and after the ceremony.

Merrimon-Wynne Ceremony Photos

Outdoor weddings have so much elegance and charm, especially those in the spring in North Carolina. Floral arrangements, fresh air, a gossamer gowned bride next to a handsome groom, and the clean mown lawn created a perfect backdrop from which to launch a new chapter in life.

The Details

You’ve got to love details at this wedding. Each one represents a narrowing down of so many options into the only “one” that will be right for you on your day. Katie and Will chose to let the glorious May light into their reception, heaped on the fresh florals, ribbons, and included custom note and menu cards, as well as lovely linens.

A notable vendor element: Instead of a wedding cake, Andia’s Homemade Ice Cream was served to guests in hand scooped cups with loads of toppings.

Merrimon-Wynne Wedding Beautiful Couple

We loved being a part of this bride and groom’s day. There’s even a personal connection, of sorts. The ring bearer, Hudson, was so cute and his personality so infectious, that planner Nicole told her husband about him. They loved the name so much that their second son is named Hudson. Talk about your lasting impressions.

We hope that Katie and Will are healthy, happy and enjoying married life. We wish them only the best.
