A Party, disguised as a Wedding
And THAT, dear ones, is a compliment! This couple is from the New York/New Jersey part of the world and their guests of course, were too. There was plenty of noise, laughter, dancing and cheers. It was such a party. This August wedding was an absolute blast. Katie and Brian chose to have both their wedding and reception at Bay 7 in the tobacco district in Durham.
The Preparation
Bay 7 provides a very cool, modern, industrial chic to events and for this wedding, it made it possible for the bride and groom’s entrance to be dramatic, and the guests’ views to be especially memorable. The details they added to the space in the form of drapes, lighting and tables, transformed it from wide open to intimate as well.
The Ceremony
The Reception
Both the bride and groom are extremely close to their families, so instead of a large group of attendants on either side, Katie chose her brother to be her “Man of Honor” and Brian’s sister was his “Best Woman.” It was such a smart way to play it and a departure from the rows of bridesmaids and groomsmen that we Southerners are accustomed to. Not only did the vows seem more exclusive and tender, with just the five of them (counting the officiant), but the reception speeches brought the house down with just the right amount of sentimentality and inappropriateness.
The Details
Bay 7 not only has great options for indoor and outdoor photography, gathering and plenty of room for creative lighting and dancing, they are owned by Angus Barn who handled the catering. Needless to say, the food was exceptional and the partying went on long into the night. Edible Art provided the lovely sweets and the florals were taken care of beautifully by Embellished Blooms. Guests were treated to ready to go S’mores boxes to remember the day.

We cannot say enough about the fun that follows these two around. Katie and Brian’s energy is contagious and almost every picture of them exudes warmth, inclusivity, laughter and joy. We thoroughly enjoyed being their wedding planners and know that whatever they are doing right now, they are doing it with gusto and love! Cheers!
