Our NCMA Wedding

You would almost expect the person who says this to be either smoking a filterless cigarette while recounting her wedding day in Paris, or putting on a backpack to resume the wanderlust that belongs to the 20 somethings. Charlene and Jon are not NYC art critics, nor are they millennials trekking through Europe. Our couple fell in love walking their dogs around the Raleigh Museum of Art, and there decided it was the place to say their vows.

Perfect place. Perfect choice!

Charlene and Jon

Charlene and Jon were married in June of 2019 and while they hoped for an outdoor wedding among the rolling grounds, trees and sculptures, the weather drove everyone indoors. No worry. The interior of NCMA is as elegant as the exterior, and the ceremony meant there was loads of fun details and characters.

These two have no siblings, so their friends played big roles in making the day warm and special. That fact was evident in so many of the photos captured by photographers Misty and Ryan Case of Pixels on Paper.

NCMA Wedding Ceremony Photos

If you are familiar with NCMA, you’ll recognize the spot for their ceremony. They were surrounded by Greek and Roman sculptures in a long gallery flanked by rows of chairs and sheer curtains. The groomsmen entered through the covered glass entryway, looking ready and dapper.

And the ring-bearer….. God help us. He stole part of the show. Donned in a suit and sunglasses, he brought the wedding rings in a steel briefcase to the front of the aisle and we can only presume guarded them.

The ultimate part of the ceremony, as cute as this kid is, had to have been when the groom met the bride. Since Charlene’s father is no longer with us, she walked halfway down the aisle and waited. Jon walked the other half to meet her and took her the rest of the way to the pastor. It was one of the sweetest moments we’ve seen at a wedding.

NCMA The Wedding Venue

The sheers on the windows, gorgeous flower arrangements on pillars, the deep blues and whites and other muted details made their ceremony and reception spaces beyond beautiful. The couple themselves became the artful pieces surrounded by historical busts and lively friends who adore them. Other details included long tables covered in navy tablecloths, white chairs and low flower arrangements set in white angular vases.

Our Reception

Getting married in an art museum in a state capital should probably secure enough “atmosphere.” And it did. The place had the historical, polished and classical ambiance one expects. Charlene and Jon – with the help of their pals – added all the fun.

The Big Finish

After all the dancing, the toasts, the tears, the laughs and the cake, these two had an absolutely gorgeous send-off. Dimmed blue lights, glowsticks and a last walk outside and off to their honeymoon was the perfect cap to their glorious wedding day.
